Arjah and Florence
These two are the heart and soul of Supporting Heart. Arjah is a Manager and Florence is the Director.
Arjah was abandoned on the bridge between Mae Sai and Tachileik as a 4 year old boy. He was saved by a local NGO, and his mission in life is now to save as many street kids, like he once was, as he can.
Florence was raised in the area by her mother who is a teacher and her father who is a pastor. She feels she has an amazingly blessed life and wants to give back to the local street kids.
Florence and Arjah are pictured together not only because they act as co-leaders of Supporting Heart, but also because they married a few years ago after serving in Supporting Heart for years. They live in and run the safe house where they act as surrogate parents to the 17 street children who live there now.
Frank Smith and His wife Darunee Laohawee – Founders
Darunee is from the business family of Sinthanee in Chiang Rai.
Frank felt a calling from God in 2001 to minister to those devestated by HIV in the Mae Kon area. He began serving in the local hospital and Supporting Heart was born. Later, in 2004, he felt called to serve the at-risk women and children of the Mae Sai and Talicheik communities, and that's when he took over a local drop-in center in Mae Sai. Since then they've flourished and saved hundreds of kids lives as well as drastically improved the community in this area. After training up Arja and Florence over the last 10 years, they have now turned over the reigns of day to day operations to them, but acts as an un-paid consultants and "Uncle Frank" to all who are a part of Supporting Heart.
